Having discovered how astrology and reality follow different scripts, we naturally ask: how can astrology benefit us if it doesn’t directly represent our reality? To answer this, we must uncover astrology’s true strengths and how to leverage them effectively.

Astrology provides a wealth of information about potential conditions in our lives—past, present, and future—because planetary positions and movements synchronize with known effects on the human body and mind. These effects essentially document likely changes in our lives. As mentioned previously, change is inherent to all material things, reminding us that what exists today may transform tomorrow.

Our responses to change vary dramatically. Some changes we welcome—like landing a dream job or embarking on an adventure—while others we dread, such as illness or isolation. Human response to change has driven both our greatest innovations and our worst devastations. Interestingly, the most beautiful and sustained successes rarely emerge from favorable conditions; they typically arise from our most challenging circumstances.

Therefore, we must disconnect the notion that “positive conditions” automatically lead to long-term success and happiness. Often, the most difficult situations provide the best opportunities to realize our full potential. Character develops and strengthens primarily through trials. Consider Lord Rama’s story in Indian mythology—his epic isn’t about lessons from a comfortable life but rather how he transcended a series of struggles that most would consider “bad” events.

Successful people consistently remind us that achievements happen outside our comfort zones. This strongly suggests that seeking comfort can actually prevent us from achieving our life’s potential.

To achieve meaningful success, we need meaningful challenges overcome through strong character. And strong character emerges from consistent effort through difficulties. Perhaps the ideal life contains enough problems to foster personal growth and enough solutions to inspire others.

Astrological data provides most value when approached neutrally—as objectively as astronomical data. Natal astrology offers a directory of possible changes in an individual’s life, not predetermined experiences. It cannot predict how we’ll respond in real time. Those responses fall within the realm of free will, largely dependent on our training and attitude toward life’s changes. This response is the crucial fifth factor that differentiates astrological data from lived experience—a topic we’ll explore further in our next article alongside karma theory.

Astrology’s place in life becomes clearer: it’s a powerful tool, similar to a microscope revealing otherwise invisible infected cells, but it isn’t medicine itself. Astrology illuminates great obstacles that would otherwise remain hidden, presenting opportunities to build our strengths. It also reveals smooth paths that allow us to leverage our existing capabilities.
