Every human action follows a three-tier structure—beginning with intention, progressing through action, and culminating in execution (the fulfillment of our original intent). Consider a simple example: enjoying a cup of tea requires first desiring it, then taking steps to obtain it, and finally experiencing its consumption. This pattern underlies virtually all human activity.
Each of these tiers can be further qualified through various attributes, creating numerous sub-tiers that reflect our values and character. An intention based on genuine need might be considered righteous. An action performed with timeliness or efficiency demonstrates wisdom or intelligence. Execution that incorporates sensory appeal reveals creativity, while considering others’ needs transforms the act into service. These qualifications create the distinctive flavors of our human experience.
Through repeated cycles of intention, action, and execution, we naturally develop preferences—likes and dislikes that spiritual traditions often identify as attachments. Over time, these attachments can grow powerful enough to compromise our righteousness and wisdom, potentially transforming virtues into vices. This dynamic nature of experience necessitates continuous, mindful application of qualitative factors to maintain positive experiences and sustainable outcomes.
Astrological planetary influences provide a framework for understanding and aligning with these qualitative energies. Each planet governs specific qualities that influence our intentions, actions, and executions: Jupiter bestows wisdom, Sun provides forethought and strategy, Venus offers creativity, Moon brings nurturing care, Rahu drives innovation, Saturn instills discipline, and Mercury facilitates communication.
The relative strengths of these planetary influences vary for each individual. Importantly, planetary encouragement for certain intentions, actions, or executions may simultaneously discourage others. This understanding allows us to incorporate astrological insights as feedback, enabling us to fine-tune our three-tier process.
While our intentions, actions, and executions generally remain within our free will, they operate within the boundaries of our relatively stable personality characteristics—traits associated with planetary placements and combinations. The three-tier model, when integrated with an understanding of planetary influences (the “planetary cabinet” described in fundamental astrological teachings), provides a powerful framework for enhanced self-governance.
This synthesis between personal agency and cosmic influence offers a balanced approach to self-development—acknowledging both our freedom of choice and the contextual planetary energies that shape our tendencies and potentials.
